Native grapevines are a natural component of Ohio forests, but heavy vines growing into tree crowns can restrict crown development, damage limbs, interfere with tree growth and form, and complicate future forest management. Feicht Forestry provides targeted grapevine control where vines are affecting desirable trees or management objectives.
🌱
Two-Cut Method
For vines climbing into tree crowns, Feicht Forestry uses a two-cut method: one cut is made near ground level and a second approximately 3 to 4 feet above it. The section between the cuts is removed so the vine cannot reconnect.
🌱
Where Control Is Most Valuable
Priority is generally given to vines occupying the crowns of desirable growing stock, areas being prepared for future timber stand improvement, and locations where grapevines are suppressing regeneration or forming dense arbors.
🌱
Leave the Upper Vine in Place
The upper portion is left hanging in the canopy to die and deteriorate naturally. Pulling vines out of live tree crowns can break limbs or create unnecessary damage.
Project-Based Pricing
Grapevine control is quoted by the project based on the acreage requiring treatment, vine density, terrain, and accessibility. Whether grapevines are scattered throughout your woodland or heavily concentrated in certain areas, Feicht Forestry can evaluate the conditions and provide a quote for treatment.
